Georgia native Alpha Andrews weaves many aspects of her multifaceted life into her visionary art. An ordained minister who was widowed when her five children were still young, she supported her family in many ways: accounting, nursing, newspaper writing, and running a hair salon were among them. She first tried her hand at art in 1983, when she created traditional memory paintings. It was not until 1991, after she was forced to cut back on other activities after a serious car wreck, that she began drawing and painting in earnest. What emerged then was a fascinating and fluid blend of dreams, visions, and psychic images. Andrews typically works with watercolor and marker on paper, and often incorporates phrases and bits of text into the body of her vibrant works. Her art has been enthusiastically received by collectors, and has been included in numerous publications and permanent collections across America.
